Sam Barnes is a writer/director currently based in Victoria, Australia on the traditional lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung. Born and raised in Sydney, he is a Media Arts and Production graduate from the University of Technology Sydney, where in 2013 he did an exchange program at the University of Texas, Austin and in 2021 has attained a Masters of Narrative Film and Television at the Victorian College of Arts.
His award-winning short films Dream Reel (2015) and Kent Stays in the Woods (2017) have been successful in international markets, having screened in various global film festivals. In 2019, Sam wrote and directed the short film Mira (2019) and recently completed his graduate short film Home (2021).
As a freelancer, Sam has worked with M&C Saatchi, DDB, and brands such as Disney, Optus, Netflix, Macdonalds, VW, Westpac, and IGA.
