Alana Barker-Tompson

BIO

Alana Barker-Tompson is an multi-award winning cinematographer and director based in Melbourne, Australia. She has 10 years’ industry experience.

After completing a Bachelor of Film and TV with distinction at Deakin University, Alana’s first booking was as a camera operator on Season 7 of Animal Planet’s network television series, Whale Wars. She spent 3 months at sea documenting the violent clashes between the Japanese Whaling Fleet and Sea Shepherd.

Working across corporate, documentary, fashion, lifestyle and advertising, Alana has shot for clients such as Air Canada, FIFA Women’s World Cup, Telstra, Google, Melbourne Fashion Festival and Animal Planet amongst others.

Alana has her Working With Children Check and is a member of The Australian Cinematographers Society, WIFT and Australian Screen Editors.

Easy to get along with, Alana’s always positive and has an ego-free approach to her work. She specialises in sensitive content and makes whoever is in front of her camera feel relaxed and safe. Alana is experienced not only as a DOP but also as a director and producer and can be a one-woman film crew if needed.

She owns an FX6 kit along with lighting and audio and regularly does interstate and international shoots.
