Sam Barnes is an up-and-coming, Sydney-based director/editor. He is a Media Arts & Production graduate from the University of Technology, Sydney and in 2013 studied documentary and 16mm filmmaking at the prestigious University of Texas at Austin.
In 2016, Sam’s award-winning graduate film, Dream Reel, was screened in 6 countries around the world as part of the International Festival Signes de Nuit and in 2017 was selected in the ABC’s “Grad Season”, ‘an exclusive showcase of the best original short films by recently graduated Australian film school students’, as part of the ABC Art’s iView programme.
In 2017, Sam edited the short documentary, Kent Stays in the Woods, directed by Jackson Devereux. The short was selected in multiple film festivals around the United States, including the Camden International Film Festival, and won best short at Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival.
Over the past year Sam has immersed himself in a full-time editing position at M&C Saatchi and Yes Agency, creating short form, online and TVC content with brands such as OPTUS, National Geographic, ESPN, Netflix, Comm Bank, CGU and Steggles.
