Max Mackinnon

BIO

Max Mackinnon lives and works on Kaurna land in Adelaide, South Australia. An experienced TV Director, Max learnt his craft while working at ABC TV on shows such as The Cook and the Chef, Poh’s Kitchen and Restoration Australia. After leaving the ABC in 2015, Max founded Same River Studio and has been fortunate to produce campaigns and films for the likes of Sofitel, Miele, Weber, Lilydale, Vasse Felix and many others. Max has also directed shows for Foxtel, BBC and the ABC, and directed and shot all around Australia as well as in Japan, Cambodia and New Zealand.

In recent years, Max has been blessed to collaborate with Indigenous communities around South Australia to help amplify Aboriginal voices and share stories both ancient and modern, producing work for Art Gallery of South Australia, Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Mobile Language Team and others.

As a shooter Max is always focused on details and light that help bring stories to life and illuminate key concepts. Max shoots on a Sony FX6 and loves to deploy his set of Contax Zeiss primes where appropriate. Max also flies a DJI Mavic 2 pro and is a proficient Final Cut X editor, with a keen sense of the power of music and sound effects to help elevate a story.
