Selina Miles is a Sydney based Director / Director of Photography who has worked in over 20 countries worldwide with representation in Sydney, New York, Paris and London. She began her career as an editor of online content before moving into Directing commercials, and most recently working as Director / DOP on acclaimed ABC iView series The Wanderers.
Commercially, Selina has worked with brands such as JD Sports, Pepsi, Red Bull and Ubisoft. She has created music videos for The Hilltop Hoods, Northlane and most recently for UK pop star Anne Marie.
After studying a Bachelor of Multimedia Design at University of Queensland, Selina discovered a passion for editing, and after several years of self-teaching went on to direct a series of videos for ARIA-award winning band The Hilltop Hoods, including “Shredding the Balloon,” winner of a silver ACS award in 2012. Her music video “Rattling the Keys to the Kingdom” was nominated for Music Video of the Year in Triple J’s J Awards.
In 2013, Selina took a break from creating music videos, taking a vacation to Europe during which she self-produced a range of hyperlapse videos featuring artist Sofles. The second in this series, entitled “Limitless” was released on Youtube in October 2013 and quickly gained over 10 million views. This exposure launched Selina’s career internationally, landing her representation in Europe and America.
She has been building her skills in the commercial field since 2013, most recently directing the 2016 Christmas broadcast campaign for UK sportswear giant JD Sports. She is comfortable with crews large or small, and prefers to be behind the camera wherever possible. She also edits many of her projects.
2016 saw Selina progress into the documentary field, self-producing a series of films on Vimeo entitled “Portrait of an Artist.” The second of these was awarded a Staff Pick on Vimeo, and the series has gathered just under 150,000 views. These works helped her secure a grant from Screen Australia which led to the creation of “The Wanderers,” a 6 x 10 minute documentary series which premiered on ABC iView in 2017 and went on to achieve distribution in America and Europe.
Selina applies her vibrant and energetic style to all she does, specialising in a range of technological tricks such as hyperlapse and stop-motion. When she is not behind the camera in Sydney, her following within the street art and graffiti community takes her to conferences and art festivals worldwide. To date, she has worked in far-flung places such as Tahiti, Suriname, Indonesia, Russia, Panama, the UAE, Iceland, Vanuatu, and throughout Europe and America.
